A lithium-ion cell — whether cylindrical or prismatic — is assembled from the same family of core components. Only the housing and the way the electrodes are packaged differ. This tracker follows the commodity inputs behind those components, so you can see which parts of cell cost actually move with markets.

Of the ~9 core component families, the three cathode metals (lithium, nickel, cobalt) are tracked here today. Copper foil, aluminium foil, can metal and graphite are LME / benchmark-quotable and on the roadmap. Separator, binder and safety hardware are specialty inputs with no liquid public price benchmark.

Cell formats used in the Indian EV market
Cylindrical
18650 · 21700 · 26650 · 32140 / 4680-class
Wound “jelly-roll” electrodes sealed in a steel can with a vent and current-interrupt device. Mature, low per-cell cost, easy to source and thermally forgiving. Dominant in Indian 2W and e-rickshaw packs, plus many 3W. Pack makers wire hundreds together, so cell count and BMS complexity run high.
Prismatic
Hard aluminium can · incl. large / blade LFP
Stacked or wound electrodes in a welded rectangular can. Better pack-level volumetric efficiency and far fewer cells per pack. Common in 4W EVs and grid BESS; large-prismatic and blade LFP formats (CATL, BYD) are increasingly relevant for Indian 4W and storage. Stronger casing, simpler pack wiring.

How to read it: cathode metals are the only component group with a live / manual feed in this tool today — and also the single largest cost driver, which is why cell prices track lithium, nickel and cobalt so closely. The roadmap group is quotable on the LME or benchmark indices and can be wired in; the “no benchmark” group is priced through private supplier contracts.
